Summer Shakespeare is an annual Shakespeare-themed acting workshop inaugurated in June of 2012, and encourages young people in Ghana to embrace the arts and to create using language and theatre.
It has included a series of Shakespeare-themed, theatre-related events for young people in Accra, and allows children, teenagers, and young people to participate in acting workshops, poetry readings and performances.
This year, Summer Shakespeare is taking on an experimental new format. The length of the workshop has been shortened from six weeks to nine days. We will be engaging in deep textual work, and encouraging workshop participants to look at the play in a radical new way. There will be a lot of physical work, including dance and movement pieces that will underscore the text work.
This year’s session will close with a two-day presentation (performance) of selected scenes from Macbeth on 25th & 26th July 2014 at the Nubuke Foundation in East Legon. Participants must be available the whole length of the workshop.
Weekdays from 2-5pm at the Nubuke Foundation in East Legon
Start date: Wednesday 16th July 2014
End date: Saturday 26th July 2014
